ENGLISH FOR DOCTORS
Aspects of the English language will be introduced and then practised with activities in a medical context.

Then the language will be further practised in listening and writing activities involving medical documents.

Further to this reading skills aimed at  matching  the skills required to understand a range of medical texts including hospital documents, medical textbooks, reference materials and articles will be covered.

Case histories and different forms of treatment will be investigated and discussed.

The use of online databases will be covered.

LISTENING TASKS
ALL LISTENING ACTIVITIES ARE HIGHLY INTERACTIVE ALLOWING FOR INPUT AND DISCUSSION REGARDING MEDICAL MATTERS.



LISTENING TASKS WILL INCLUDE:

SIMULATED DOCTOR PATIENT INTERVIEWS
DISCUSSION AMONG DOCTORS
PHONE CALLS FROM HOSPITAL LABORATORY
PHYSIOTHERAPIST GIVING INSTRUCTIONS TO  A PATIENT.
THE ENGLISH FOR DOCTORS COURSE WILL ENABLE YOU  NOT ONLY TO DEVELOP YOUR SPEAKING AND LISTENING SKILLS WHEN COMMUNICATING WITH ENGLISH SPEAKING PATIENTS AND RELATIVES BUT WILL ALSO FOCUS ON YOUR READING SKILLS PARTICULARLY WITH REFERENCE TO MEDICAL MATERIAL SUCH AS JOURNAL ARTICLES AND PATIENT CASE NOTES.
